Jackson Mansion Room Dedication

Official Grand Opening of
Col. Jackson’s Office
The Board of Directors of The Berwick Historical Society gratefully acknowledges the sponsor of this room, mr. gerald kershner for his generosity and historic contributions to the authenticity of this room. his personal knowledge handed down to him by his great-grandfather, jacob knecht, the jackson’s coachman, adds a unique perspective to this room’s history.

Featuring authentic photos, artifacts and historically documented wallpaper of the era
11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Using the words of Mr. Kershner, “my passion was to restore this room as closely as possible to the time period when the house was built, and was used briefly by the Colonel as his office”. Some of the restroation that was done to achieve this goal was professional painting of the ornate plaster work and hanging of historically documented wallpaper. Of course, we are always interested in obtaining objects for this room that have a connection to Colonel Jackson and the room.

After several years of restoration work, the office is now ready for official opening. The room contains some of the Jacksons’ original artifacts. Mr. Kershner is the Great-grandson of Jacob Knecht, coachman for the Jacksons. He will provide some interesting Jackson family stories. There will also be a one-time showing of an American flag that was flown during the years of the Civil War.

Tours are $5 per person and begin at 11:30 a.m. and the last tour starts at 2:00 p.m.

Official Room Opening of Butlers Pantry
A TRIBUTE TO THE MEMORY OF MARIA VEZENDY

1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

After almost 100 years, the original table that was in the Jackson Mansion’s Butlers Pantry is back in place thanks to Maria Vezendy and all of the over 125 persons who donated to the Maria Vezendy Memorial Fund. Her appreciation for history, hard work and dedication and board service is deeply missed, but thanks to your generous donations, it will never be forgotten.

Maria started the room sponsorship program for the Jackson Mansion. Upon Maria’s death, she requested that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Berwick Historical Society. The Board of Directors and her family decided to use the over $6,000 to finish restoration of the room in her honor. What you will see on Saturday May 26th is a completely restored Butlers Pantry.

• Original table will be setup as it was for the Jacksons with a line of period French china
• Restored counters and functioning dumb waiter
• Restored wallpaper and ceiling paper
• Original silver safe restored to functioning condition
• Original cabinets filled with period china and glassware
• The Borough safe has been removed and replaced with an early cabinet
• Floors have been completely restored

Five rooms have been completely restored and many more are started. Come in and see what your donations and Maria’s vision have accomplished. Tours are $5 per person and start at 1:00 p.m. Last tour is 4:00 p.m.

“The Last Dinner On The Titanic”
A TRIBUTE TO THE MAIDEN VOYAGE OF THE TITANIC

Featuring photos, artifacts, stories and sounds of the era with an authentic 7-course menu
Please join us for a very special presentation to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Titanic’s maiden voyage and remember the victims of the greatest sea disaster of the century.

We’ve got a 7-course dinner lined up at the Berwick Golf Club, along with special memorabilia and factual presentations. The guest speaker will be John "Jack" Gunser, who will speak “From Victorian to Edwardian”. Both the luncheon program and speaker are open to the general public, as well as members, with the purchase of a “boarding pass”.

$30 per person. (members)
$35 per person. (non-members)

• Hors d'oeuvres (1st Course) served 11 a.m. to Noon
• 2nd through 7th Course served Noon to 2 p.m.
• Speaker Presentation 2 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
• Half Hour Break 2:30 to 3:00 p.m.
